Unleash the Power of infographics: A Crash Course in Presenting Bite-Sized Data
This presentation dives into the world of infographics, exploring their ability to transform complex information into simple, engaging visuals tailored to busy educators, administrators, staff, students, or anyone!

As a Field Tech for three elementary schools, I have noticed that technical-minded people love spreadsheets and raw data; educators don’t! They prefer to see the story, not just the numbers. After realizing this, I set out to tell that story - the information I needed to communicate - in a concise and visually appealing way. I'm here to share my experience. Discover how infographics: Simplify complex concepts: Break down intricate ideas into clear, digestible chunks. Boost information retention: Leverage the power of visual memory for long-lasting knowledge. Increase engagement: Capture attention and spark curiosity with compelling visuals. Promote active learning: Encourage critical thinking through data visualization. We will discuss practical tips and best practices for creating effective infographics, empowering you to: A. Design visually appealing and informative layouts. B. Choose the right data visualization tools. C. Craft concise and impactful messaging. You will walk away with the knowledge and tools to create infographics that revolutionize communication and understanding regardless of the audience. We will use Canva for Education to demonstrate, but the concepts we discuss can be used with any graphic design program.

Penguin Phone Home: How Linux Servers Can Update Themselves and Send Emails
Manually checking for server software updates is tedious, but it's even worse when something goes wrong and you find out about it from angry users! Come learn how to configure "unattended-upgrades" on your Linux servers and how to give them the ability to send emails (you'll be grateful you did!).  It's quite a milestone when children learn to talk and an even bigger one when they are finally potty-trained! A server that can't update itself or notify you when something happens (or when there's a problem) is like a little baby (lots of work!). In this presentation you will learn how to:
  1. Install and configure "unattended-upgrades" (including scheduling automatic reboots for updates that require them).
  2. Install and configure "msmtp" (an SMTP client) to give your servers the ability to send emails.
  3. How to configure "crontab" to run scheduled tasks, for example:
  • If a scheduled process has an error, email me about it.
  • Scripts to email me if a certain process has crashed or if a filesystem volume is almost full.

Iron County Schools and MyVideoSpot – Pushing Innovation and Integration
This session will explore MyVideoSpot’s SaaS solution for video management, how it is being used at Iron County Schools, and their push that led to the integration with UETN’s IVC system.

Teachers at Iron County Schools have been using the MyVideoSpot platform for the last two years, utilizing the built in tools for uploading instructional videos, creating video and screen recordings, safely sharing videos from external platforms such as YouTube and Vimeo, and then sharing those videos with their students via the provided Canvas integration. In addition to looking at the platform, we will look at the instrumental role that Iron County played with the integration of MyVideoSpot and UETN’s IVC system. As Iron County utilizes the IVC system for their instructor led courses, they wanted a simplified solution where the recorded courses from the IVC system were automatically populated into the district’s MyVideoSpot platform. We’ll take a closer look at this integrated solution, which now gives all of the teachers at Iron County easy access to the IVC video recordings for the courses their students are taking.

Unleashing to power of 5G for the Utah Education and Telehealth Networks
The presentation will cover: What are the 5G benefits? Low latency, high throughput, Spectrum, RAN architecture choices, Core Network choices, and local breakout scenarios.

This will be a tutorial to teach the audience basic RF concepts, from coverage and capacity, the tradeoff between 4G and 5G (and why 5G?), and how 5G improves latency and throughput. Then, we focus on the connection between use cases, devices, spectrum strategy, and how that drives the overall network strategy. We delve into the intricacies of various RAN architectures that maximize coverage and capacity while optimizing Capex and Opex. Similarly, we take a look at different core network scenarios. After teaching the audience how to architect a 5G network, we dive into the day-to-day operational requirements. what should we measure while rolling out the network and once we are in an operational state, how we should Design-> Implement -> Measure -> Optimize (in a cyclical manner).

Becoming the Teddy Bear: Building Bridges between Compliance and End Users in the Areas of Cybersecurity and Data Privacy
The ever-increasing scrutiny placed on areas of Cyber security and Data Privacy have served to highlight a growing tension between end users and those responsible for ensuring an organization’s data and security compliance. How do we, as IT professionals bridge the yawning chasm between end user goals/desires and effective security/privacy? IT professionals are not known for the so-called “soft skills” and often seem to speak an entirely different language. Is there a better way to approach these conversations? Is there a way to entice end users in various roles to also be part of the solution? We often hear about the importance of effective communication, but we need to go beyond that. We must find ways to encourage end user “buy-in” through collaboration and a willingness to explore alternatives. We need to become the Teddy Bear.

May the Source Be With You! How to Set Up and Use a Linux Git Server
Git is a really useful tool (with benefits including change tracking, well-organized collaboration, and automatic backups), but maybe you're nervous about hosting your code using a commercial source code management service. Come see how easy it is to set up a private Git server (fewer steps than you might think)!  Having even one character out of place in the code of a script, query, or program can cause it to not run, so little changes can be really important, but having to create and name a backup, and then copy it to a server every time you make a change can become a burden! Do you have information in your code that shouldn't be shared outside of your organization? The major commercial source code management services all have a free private repository option, but if your code is hosted somewhere else (offsite, and ultimately outside of your control), so there's a certain peace of mind that comes from having your own, local, private Git server, and setting one up is actually very easy--come find out how!

Developing and Implementing a "Functional" Video Surveillance Policy
Assessing and prioritizing critical components for a school district video surveillance policy. Includes: Technologies, Authorization, Access, Obligations, Responsibilities, Coverage, Storage, "What it is", "What it is not", and Interfacing with legal entities.

A detailed look into the components that are necessary to build a policy to manage video surveillance technologies, authorizations, expectations, and legal safeguards. It is easy for video recorded incidents to get out of hand very quickly if a policy does not already exist. Dozens of incidents, each year, are picked up on district video recording devices. Having a well-developed policy will ensure the school district does not find itself backed into a legal corner. Technologies, Authorizations, Obligations & Responsibilities, Coverage & Storage Strategies, and best practices will make it possible for your District Video Surveillance Policy to guide every incident that may be challenged by non-district related incidents, criminal incidents, events that become student record, and managing expectations of what "Is" or "Is Not" permitted (through policy).

Optimize Learning and Teaching by Assuring Digital Experiences across Any Network
Network assurance is designed to enable School Districts and Universities with the ability to assure digital experiences over any network—whether they own the network or not. By understanding the full context of experience and its underlying factors, organizations are empowered to actively and continuously manage service outcomes for students, teachers/employees, and critical IT infrastructure. Network assurance focuses on the end-to-end “network” of interconnected private environments, service providers, and services that form a user’s experience of an application or service—from Internet service providers (ISPs), public cloud, SaaS, and more. It provides a holistic view of digital experience by showing each connected element, such as a router, DNS resolver, or web server, and its impact in relation to other elements and performance as a whole.

In this presentation we will demonstrate how to assure digital experience over any network by providing deep visibility and comprehension of the end-to-end digital supply chain. Show how to: 1-Reduce complexity and time required to address performance degradations and outages 2-Improve efficiency and overcome business silos through collaboration 3-De-risk of digital transformation initiatives, protecting business continuity, and accelerating business agility 4-Gain visibility into SaaS, ISP, Cloud, Collab Apps for in-person and remote learning/teaching. 5-Identify issues happening in the student/teacher/employee’s environment, even if they are intermittent 6-Proactively monitor and visualize the path between your users and the applications 7-Monitor integrations with other applications through APIs
